Making Lists

Making Lists

Not being an organized person by nature, I have a hard time keeping track of things once I get ‘in the groove’ of writing or doing web work. I love to work. Obsessed with it. So how do I keep track?

Lists.

Massive, frequent, continual, ever-changing lists.

Here’s an example. I’m working on the official formation of our family publishing company, named in honor of my late mother. Through it, we wanted to do all of the Wanted Hero books and works, both physical and digital publishing (Nook, Kindle, iBook, Smashwords, etc.).

My office is an explosion of work, and so I decided it was high time I got focused and create a work schedule to complete the projects at hand. So here’s the list of project I’m currently working on.

  • WANTED:HERO Chronicles
    • Prelude to a Hero
    • No Experience Necessary
  • The Adventures of Chuck & Dax
    • The Origin of Dax (not the final title)
  • Chucks Interactive Cookbook (not actual title)
  • BLOODSTICKS- A History and Players Guide
  • The NETHINIM:
    • Brothers of Blood
  • Höbin Luckyfellers Field Guide to Wanted Hero

That’s quite a set of projects and until I created this list, I have been working in a sea of papers, notes and sketches over my desk and walls. Yet now I know for a fact that I’m insane. At the same time, I’m very excited to see so many projects being developed. The next set of lists have the projects broken down into their manageable bites.

The last set has the work schedule for myself and for the work that Kathilynn and I do together.

So if you find yourself confused, overwhelmed or bogged down, do yourself a favor and create a list of what you’re actually doing and get some simple, fast clarity to work with. You’ll breathe easier and regain your focus.

God Bless.

On The Move Again

On The Move Again

We’re moving, plain and simple. To where we just don’t know. So the plan is to move all we own into storage and then take our overnight bags and set off into the sunset to a loving friends house.

I’m so proud of my children, who have risen to each and every occasion with honor, strength and optimism, something they got from their beloved mother. As for myself, I’ll be creating a small but effective ‘portable office’ and continue to work night and day until the first few books are done for Wanted Hero.

It’s all about persistence and determination. Not sure what test the Universe has in store for my family, but I’ve been telling the kids that for us to achieve unusual things, we will have to meet and overcome unusual challenges. So your prayers, kind thoughts and words are always appreciated as we step from our lovely home and into the next challenge of our lives.

God Bless

Don’t Give Up.

Don’t Give Up.

I know it’s hard. I know you feel you’ve tried everything you can think of, but there’s one factor you cannot control or influence.

Time.

Sometimes our greatest challenge is simply to last longer than anyone else. To be willing to sacrifice and do things out of the ordinary because what we want is also out of the ordinary. The answers will come. Something different will manifest itself so long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other and you listen to the whispers of the environment.

I’ve never heard of anyone stumbling upon something while sitting down.

So give it another try today. Don’t think about tomorrow or next week, just focus on today. One hour at a time if you have to, but don’t give up.

You can do this.

Your Friend,

Learning from one another.

Learning from one another.

I’m not a ‘guru’ at anything that I’m aware of, though I don’t think I’m a slouch either. However, I was pretty confident that my experience with self-publishing Wanted Hero as a comic book was enough to do the same with the Chronicles series of novels.

Nope.

Thankfully I love to learn and to read and to partake of others experiences and add them to my own. There are a lot of intelligent and wickedly brilliant people in the world. People who have special knowledge and marketable experience. Which is why I like to surf the web looking for answers to questions I have at the moment I have them. This usually leads to in depth study of a subject from those who know what they’re talking about.

Last night I found one of the better sites for those who want to self-publish: The Book Designer, by Joel Friedlander.

An incredible blog and one I recommend to anyone interested in a great flow of concrete information and experience, sure to help you make a better book, both print AND digital. Reading some of the articles has helped me work harder AND smarter.

My first impulse has been to rush and get Prelude to a Hero out the door and into people’s hands. But wait…

  • What about making sure all the entire story is laid out and in place to set the stage for the entire series?
  • What about making sure to use the right typeface, so the book is beautiful in a Kindle, Nook, iBook and other reader formats?
  • What about illustrations?
  • What about an index of the various languages and pronunciation guides to make the adventure more enjoyable?
  • What about the cover?
  • Will it stand out? (LOL, oh yeah…)
  • Will it encourage someone to pick it up? (again, you bet!)
  • What about pricing, ISBN #’s, both for print and eBook, and the list goes on…

If you have all that sorted for yourself, good on you! If not, I suggest going to The Book Designer to make sure you’re not missing a crucial element to your future success.

Just thought I’d share a rare find.
God Bless.

What Happened to The BIG Lagoon?

What Happened to The BIG Lagoon?

You may be wondering what happened to the incredible project we started in 2010 called the BIG Lagoon?

In one simple word: funding.

It stopped. Plain and simple and no matter how much we loved it or wanted to proceed forward, you just cannot create new technology without the tools and resources it requires.

So the main nut of the entire system is completed. The core that sets it apart from every other social network…the connection…and we wait. Moving on with daily life until something else opens up or we find funding from another source.

We did all we could and many of us went beyond our contracts to build this awesome project even after funding stopped. It has been an incredible experience and we look forward to getting it completed and live once again.

Thank you Nat, Nathan and James for all your work, devotion and brilliance.

To all those who signed up for the beta and never got the chance to take this system for a run…we have your names and will inform you the moment anything changes.
