You know what the most challenging aspect of writing is IMO?

It’s playing both sides of the fence!

I have spent this last week plotting and outlining the conflicts of the next book in the Chronicles of a Hero series. The challenge has been trying to imprison evil in such a way that they cannot escape. Ok, we can do that. Designing the prison, the magic, the symbols and mechanics of the stars and the dynamics of the process…hiding the components so they can’t be found. Done.

…only to switch sides and plot the escape of the devil himself so he can wreak havoc on the inhabitants of Elämä.

*sigh*

It’s a challenge I love–while pulling my own hair out at times. It comes from living so close to the characters that you start to feel the pain, the anguish and the pressure of their choices. Awesome.

I know I’m on the right track when I took a break and created the voice of Mahan as he whispers to Wendell and it scared me so bad I refused to listen to it after the sun went down…

Ooooh I love this job!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

How often do you think about your future?

Is there anything in your mind or heart that tells you a change needs to occur in your life? Perhaps a small voice or feeling that says there’s more to life than what you’re experiencing?

What do you do with those feelings? Ignore them or act on them??

Being the father of 11 children–schooling them to be self-thinkers and powerfully willed souls increases my desire to encourage others to reach for all they can in their own lives. When I watch my kids learn, make choices day after day …and especially when they come to me asking for council–my heart literally burns with a desire to assist in any way I can, without getting in their way.

If you don’t mind, I want to share something I tell my loved ones: Life is an experience you need to learn in motion. It’s based on choices. Day after day, one choice after another–your choices hinder or help you.

The great part about life is the choice is always yours.

Oh sure, you don’t control anything,…except for how you react.
It was never about control. It’s about making choices to create a flow.

Ever wonder what LIFE means? Let It Flow Effortlessly

It’s about making those choices that guide you to what you want…or take you further from that very goal.

How many opportunities will open when you choose to be kind? When you choose to be respectful? When you choose to exercise manners? When you choose to endure? When you choose to get up one more time than you get knocked down!??

You, my friend, will have the world opened to you.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Choose.

Hungry Minds Must Be Fed…

Just finished ordering the review copies of Prelude to a Hero in print, due Monday morning (hope that extra $20 for shipping is actually worth it). Then Kathilynn and I can sit down, separately, and mark up the copy–make sure it’s all pretty for you and printable. Looking forward to seeing the final, physical copy!

Also had some challenges when it came to Smashwords. NOTE: make sure to follow their guide, no matter how much you’re convinced of your own cleverness…or you’ll have to do it all over. Resubmitted work, epub checked it (successfully) and now we wait once again. It’s all very annoying, but I’m glad this process is in place: making sure you get the best book possible.

So what now? Other than taking a small breath and perhaps trying to get some exercise?

It’s time to write again. The plotting, the outlining, the expansion of histories and even some game creation with Evan. He’s got an incredible idea for a card game that I’m excited about.

The focus is now upon the Chronicles of a Hero series. The first novel due this fall (2011). Kathi thinks I’m crazy, the kids think it’s cool and the readers need to have their hungry minds fed as soon as possible when it comes to the adventures of Wendell. So I’m working with speed and diligence.

Having gone through this process [writing with Kathi] was a great learning experience, and now I feel like running at full speed–following the carefully outlined course set for this story, and I hope…truly hope, that you’ll be an intimate part of that adventure.

I’m looking forward to answering questions, creating side stories to expand on your interests, creating merchandise you’d actually love to have–instead of creating ‘stuff’ and throwing it at you.

I want to have fun…with you and everyone you know.

Looking for a Miracle: Van is Dead

As with any determination to beat a challenge, the opposition you will face always grows.It’s not a bad thing, it’ just is…and we seem to have hit our next challenge:

Working diligently to keep the family going in any way I can and spending time with Kathi forming the complex plot twists of the next WANTED:HERO book and lo–our only vehicle now decides to give up the ghost. ARRRGH!!!

Anyone who says being a writer is easy…should be shot and dumped in the desert.

This is intense work. Seriously.

Well, at least if you want a good book, anyway. Kathi and I have been working towards a top notch story and with the illustrations done, we now have the printed version ready for print.

What will be different than the eBook?
