Preface
We ‘knew’ so many things;
We ‘knew’ we were the center of the universe.
We ‘knew’ the Earth was flat.
We ‘knew’ nothing existed smaller than the naked eye could see.
We ‘knew’ only birds and bugs could fly upon the wind.
Yes, we ‘knew’ so many things…even if it was only for a moment.
Too many are convinced they ‘know’ the world around them, their blinding arrogance creating inaccurate theories of time, space and even life itself. Limiting their imaginations by their own perceptions, they would never believe the actual truth. There is so much more than what we see in our little world. A vast universe of epic conflicts and miracles to which we are blind.
What if both science and religion were right? If theology was mathematical perfection and science was nothing short of the perfect religion? What if there was a place where battles between good and evil were real…and so were the gods and devils? And what if magic wasn’t an invention of fantasy, but a term used to describe principles not yet understood by the average man?
I know this world.
What if we were unknowing benefactors of sacrifices made by valiant men, women and children who defied the gaping jaws of an enemy, clinging to a hope of deliverance? Yet all the while blood of friends, neighbors and family stained the ground around them.
When I stand with those who fight, bleed and die for something greater than ourselves, my heart soon burns with a similar fire. It urges me forward to reclaim my freedoms and seek justice against those who would rob me of them. I found myself willing to reach for the impossible, and I was not alone.
Yes, I know this place and they deserve to be remembered.
This story begins with a stranger. A self-proclaimed coward. A mere boy from a different world.
His name is Wendell. And he united the hearts of nations by accident.
Some will say this is nothing but a tale of fiction.
Let them think as they will.
After all…I can’t fix stupid.
