I think that a great deal continued to change when the American Idol system of generating popularity to generate income came onto the scene. We have youth that believe they can become a star if they just have "it", rarely focusing on the actual talent of music. Fortunately we then see people like Daughtry rise above it all with talent and to spare, while people like Usher--who truly do have talent, decide to squander it and cover it in the lusts and vomit of the day to appease the masses. That's just my own opinion, but with regards to Usher, it came from my own teens (15, 16, 18). They're just disgusted with his type. Thank you for the comment Ruth. I recently gave a talk on this subject, and brought out the point that "Talent" now covers a broad spectrum. You are considered "talented" if you have a nice bod, play basketball, and get 10 face-lifts in a year! Musicianship now combines sex, gyration, bass and charisma, instead of what I consider to be actual MUSICAL talent...Melody and awesome lyrics...I screen what my daughters listen to like you, and MY music also covers a large range of genres...classical, classic rock, etc...(I can't handle rap-crap, and country!)
