Coward or Patriot: which are you?

The winds of conflict are all around us, most visual in the media. Attacks on the President, on Law, on any and all moral issues and points of view…just about any subject that will cause conflict is brought up and rubbed in our faces. We are asked to take sides, to make a stand, to voice our minds but I have yet to see it happen. It appears (to me) that along with this never ending bombardment of metal anguish and verbal conflict over views, morals, law and conscious we have the true fight on our hands. The one of fear.

I’m not talking about terrorists, though you might be able to fit this into that category. No, I’m talking about the real intent I personally see behind the conflict, the confusion,  and the desenstising of our populace so they just don’t give a damn. To create such a mess of our system of law, the modes of communication and the functions of our society that a normal, everyday citizen would be overwhelmed and fear to be singled out if they so much as open their mouth. Isn’t that what’s happening, or am I just crazy?

Think carefully about this. I started wondering when the show COPS continued to play until I heard my in-laws make comments such as “well, that’s what they do and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it”. Shows on TV with police brutality became so common place and then you know what? I stopped hearing about police brutality in the news. Not that it went away, but in my area it just became accepted as part of life! My own wife was followed by an officer for more than 6 blocks into a neighbor hood and when she pulled up in front of the house, said he needed to give her a ticket…after he helped her into the house with the groceries!

As I pulled up behind the cop car, the officer told her he was going to let her off with a warning and sped off quickly.

My complaints were cast aside by the local authorities.

Now we are in a society where if you happen to loath the current president, his policies and his bedfellows, you’re not one who has an opinion…you must be a racist. If you believe homosexuality is flat out wrong and an abomination in the sight of God, this isn’t a religious belief your sharing, it’s a hate crime. You don’t have a right to see the face of your accusers. Instead, one can simply make an accusation on a private phone line, and government agencies can be brought down upon your family in a heartbeat.

Worse yet, you can be picked up on suspicion and held indefinitely.

So why is so much corruption permitted by the people? Why aren’t more of us standing firm and shouting from our rooftops that we have had enough of this blatant evil in every facet of our society? Because people are scared of repercussions. They are terrified of going it alone and in the end, a single man is more likely to shrink from his duty and responsibility to defend his freedoms and liberties, than to stand firm, even if alone, and shine a light on those same freedoms and liberties we are losing hand over fist through the governmental rape of our country.
